The Little Engine That Could

Gary reminds me so much of this little blue engine. Every day I do believe I hear him under his breath saying, “I think I can, I think I can…”, and you know what? He always does. In his own way he is traveling through life with a positive, can do attitude. In one week we have been reminded by two different doctors that Gary has the most difficult form of Myasthenia gravis. (Not that we need reminding! HA!) He had his last of 4 weekly infusions last Thursday; now we wait to watch the magic. His legs and eyes still don’t want to cooperate all the time; however, it’s the diaphragm that causes the most difficulty making breathing a struggle for him. He saw his pulmonary doctor yesterday who is starting paperwork for a portable ventilator. Fingers crossed it gets approved. In the meantime we are searching for rolling backpacks or simple ways to carry the NIV he has at home with us. Where there is a will, there is a way! 🙂

This heat has been very hard on him as it is with all MG warriors. We are looking forward to cooler weather which will allow him to get out and travel more. I mentioned to him this morning we should look for an air conditioned golf cart! No doubt he will create one if it doesn’t already exist! 😉

For now he continues to do his consulting work which he absolutely loves. I don’t think he will ever retire! We also have plans to go see the Astros this Saturday with the family. He is very excited about that.

Generalized myasthenia gravis is tough, but it has met its match with my husband who is the smartest, toughest man I’ve ever known. He continues to smile and remind anyone he comes in contact with that…

He is blessed
