Myasthenia Gravis joined our family with a name in May of 2020. We had no idea the havoc this new member of our family would bring. We have honestly tried to kick it out, but it holds on tight and remains. Gary and I could give up and let it control our lives, or we could hold hands and show MG that although it is here, WE are the ones in charge, and that is what we have done. I always say for every negative there is a positive – it may be difficult to see what is positive about having MG, but if you look hard enough, you can see it. Yes, MG is here and with it so many unwanted things. One example: Gary is in a wheelchair when we have to go long distances. He loves to zoom/race in that chair which gives me the opportunity to get some cardio in and gives him the feel of being at the races! 😉 HA! Seriously, if we spent our time upset about all the changes this disease has made to our lives, we wouldn’t see all the wonderful things God has provided! It’s like that saying, “you have to have rain to see the rainbows”.
Gary is currently still fighting edema. We spoke to his neuromuscular who agreed to allow him to try to lower his prednisone dose again to 30mg every day. Three days in and so far all is good! 🙂 When we get the prednisone dose down, the edema should follow! (fingers crossed)
We are celebrating his recent ability to shower with less help, shave and brush his teeth on his own. 🎉 Walking is still in the works. He starts strong but loses momentum quickly which is ok as he makes up for it in the wheelchair! 🙂
He still has his humor and love for attention. Today he wore his Santa shirt and Santa face mask to his plasma treatment. 🎅 I LOVED seeing people he passed get a BIG smile and say, “Hi Santa”. He would tell them, “I’ve been watching you!” 👀 😂 One doctor told us it’s refreshing to see his positive attitude when dealing with MG. 💕
MG may have joined our family, but it has only made us stronger and has made us slow down enough to see our many blessings. We are so very thankful to have each other, our family and wonderful friends, and a great team of doctors. ❤️
As Gary has always said….
I AM BLESSED
