Gary has been on his new medication, Imuran, now for two weeks with no side effects. Tomorrow he ups his dose to two pills a day. Fingers still crossed that this will be the magic drug. I have been asked what supplements he is on so here goes! Yucca and Tumeric for joint pain, Quercetin with Bromelain for allergies, Passion Flower for mood, Fish Oil, Vitamin D with K2, NAC, Immune 24 hour, Probiotic, MCT oil, and Blood Builder (iron). This is in addition to the medication his neuromuscular doctor has him on. Of course as I have mentioned before he does drink various hot teas throughout the day with a cinnamon stick, honey, lemon, and at night a shot of whiskey! (I’m not so sure he isn’t sneaking those shots of whisky throughout the day! HA!)
He made it through another series of Vyvgart. The usual sinus infection occurred which was solved with amoxicillin. He has also begun to use a NettiPot daily which he says really helps. We notice a huge improvement in the mornings when he uses it before bed. While on the four week treatment of Vyvgart, we have noticed he becomes very weak, and his MG symptoms increase. However after the last dose (which was last Wednesday) he improves daily. We are in that time period now. π
We had a wonderful long weekend trip to the beach with three of the grandkids. One of the big highlights was learning to play chess. That has become a new favorite for Pawpaw and his grands. No doubt a few rules were adjusted to fit their needs! π The night before we left, Gary decided to add some excitement to our adventure. He was going up the three steps into the RV when he lost his footing and fell off the top step to the ground. I’m sure angels where there to soften the landing as it could have been so much worse! It appears he landed on his right side as his shoulder, rib area, hip, left arm, and knee are not only very sore but also colorful! His left hand and arm hit something as the skin is torn back and look like a 3rd degree burn; the knuckles on that hand are swollen as well and appear he was in a fight. The grands were wonderful bringing pillows for his head and towels to help stop the bleeding. After assessing the damage, we were able to get him up and into the RV for further evaluation and bandaging. It’s amazing what can be turned into a bandage when needed!! HA! I really wanted to take him to the ER for evaluation. His response, “I am almost 70 years old, this is nothing. I’ve cut myself shaving worse! Patch me up and let’s move forward.” That’s what we did, and two days later he was off in his truck to some meetings looking and walking like someone who won a recent fight. Nothing stops my sweetie!! Today, his shoulder, ribs, hip, and knee still are sore. The bleeding on the other arm has pretty much stopped, (It looks like he has a cast on it the way it is bandaged) and as I type this he sits in his office chair next to me working away. Not sure my heart can increase much more in size due to the pride I have being his wife! We are looking into getting a ramp for him to use to get into the RV, yet another adventure! I can only imagine the tricks he will be doing with that! HA!
Gary is having difficulty with his eyes and balance, and I’m sure this was a huge part of him falling. Looking back, Gary and I have said while it was certainly bad, it could have been so much worse… things can change in an instant. No doubt about it…
WE ARE BLESSED
