Enjoying the Rainbows in Life…

Isn’t it Dolly Parton who says, “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”? That describes Gary’s life right now. Gary is type 2 diabetic. He had it pretty much under control until he started the Imuran. He is currently battling Myasthenia Gravis with Mestinon (taken 3 times a day), Prednisone (taken every morning), Vyvgart (an infusion taken 4 weeks on/4 weeks off), and Imuran (taken twice a day). This combination seems to be playing a part in increasing blood sugar levels. However…we have a WONDERFUL endocrinologist who is working closely with us to get this back under control. He now takes a long lasting insulin shot in the morning, a fast acting insulin shot before each meal, and Januvia (a pill) at night. We think he has just about reached the “sweet” spot for good daily sugar numbers. Fingers crossed!!

As far as MG goes, well…that is a day to day, actually an hour to hour dance these days. Sometimes Gary takes the lead and others MG takes the lead. He has learned in order to get the lead back, he has to take a nap. Anyone who knows my sweet husband, knows slowing down enough to take that nap is not always easy for him. He loves his time with family/work and dislikes taking any time away from that.

Current MG symptoms:

1. difficulty with breathing…more so than usual. His body has been swelling lately, so we think this may be part of the problem.

2. Vision is really giving him fits. Very foggy and difficult to focus, double vision, and peripheral vision is gone. That pesky right eye has been closing completely in the afternoons.

3. Muscle weakness… Still using a cane for short distances. Walker is used for long distances and/or where he might need to sit and rest awhile. (We call his walker his portable chair πŸ˜‰ ) His neuromuscular doctor did increase his prednisone back up as he was having difficulty using his legs when she lowered it.

There has been some concern that he might have a muscle or bone infection in the arm he fell on back in February. The swelling has refused to go down and he has limited movement in it. X-rays show no fractures. Our PCP put him on an antibiotic and we are noticing the lower half of his arm looks better. We are holding our breath hoping the solution is this simple! πŸ™‚

I know the above comments sound bad, but in reality it’s just small rain showers mixed in with lots of sunshine and rainbows. We are loving our life together and continue to dream daily about our next adventures. He remains busy spending time with me, work, barbecuing at the beach/home and making us all laugh. He may slow down at times, but nothing STOPS my sweetie!! ❀

There is no doubt….

WE ARE BLESSED
